This is an example of why we should ban public sector unions. Rahm offered teachers a 16% raise, sixteen percent! Who else is getting a 16% raise in this economy? But union thugs turned it down. Why?
They don’t want teachers to be accountable for poor performance. They claim 6,000 teachers would lose their jobs under the current proposal. (Nobody knows where that number is coming from.) Why do union bosses want to protect lousy teachers? They should be looking out for their employers, the taxpayers of Chicago.
Only 40% of incoming freshman will graduate from high school! That’s a terrible graduation rate. Something needs to be done, but union thugs are standing in the way of student success.
Time to do what Wisconsin did! Even Franklin D. Roosevelt, liberal hero, thought public sector unions were bad.
The process of collective bargaining, as usually understood, cannot be transplanted into the public service … I want to emphasize my conviction that militant tactics have no place in the public sector. A strike of public employees manifests nothing less than an intent on their part to prevent or obstruct the operations of Government.”
