Stand with Rand on Health Care

Rand Paul rolling out new health care plan this week

Those who support Obamacare criticize the Republicans because they don’t have a replacement plan. Senator Paul has a replacement plan ready to go and will be introducing it this week. He also says he has the backing of President-Elect Donald Trump.

Rand’s plan is based on Freedom:

  1. The freedom to choose inexpensive insurance free of government dictates. (Obamacare mandates make insurance too expensive for a lot of people the law is supposed to help)
  2. The freedom to save unlimited amounts in a health savings account. (These savings accounts are not taxed.)
  3. The freedom to buy insurance across state lines. (It makes no sense that a plan bought in New Jersey should cost much more than a plan bought in South Carolina.)
  4. The freedom for all individuals to join together in voluntary associations to gain the leverage of being part of a large insurance pool. (Thus eliminating the problem that many states refused to participate in Obamacare and didn’t create their own health care exchanges.)

I checked website but don’t see the actual bill posted yet. I’ll update this post when it’s there.

I supported Rand when he ran for President and I continue to support his efforts to improve our country while in the Senate. Paul is one of about a dozen Members of Congress that are physicians so he has some experience in this area. He knows what it’s like to deal with the red tape in a health insurance bureaucracy.

I admire Rand because he spends a lot of his time away from Washington on missionary trips, performing eye surgery for free. He is the true definition of citizen-statesman and we need more like him. He follows in his famous father’s footsteps, Ron Paul is an obstetrician and former Member of Congress.

  1. My biggest question about any replacement plan is the biggest problem I had with the ACA: does the plan do anything to control costs of actual health care?

The ACA did little or nothing regarding the underlying costs, instead focusing on trying to make insurance coverage more affordable. The underlying problem is that going to the hospital can cost absolutely mind-boggling ridiculous amounts of money.
